Common errors

The following areas have been weak areas for candidates:

  • effect of wing sweep on aircraft performance
  • forces acting in flight, for maximum angle/rate of climb, range and endurance
  • asymmetric flight
  • flight controls – flying tail
  • electrical systems
  • landing gear, brakes and nose wheel steering
  • auto-pilot operation
  • flight management computer operations.

What Is Examined?

1.1 The Aerodynamic and Aircraft Systems examination tests Units 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 of Schedule 3, but may include items from earlier Units with reference to the following items:
• Advanced Aerodynamics.
• Airframe and Systems.
• Power Plants – Turbine Engine.
• Engine Instruments.
• Flight Instrumentation Systems.
• Automatic Flight Control System.
• Warning and Recording Equipment.

 

Standardised questions will be about the Boeing 767-300ER.

Refer to the Boeing 767-300ER Operations Manual extract for certain aircraft systems.

In some cases we ask about other model jet or turbo-prop aircraft to test knowledge on those types.
